Random Acts of Kindness Week spreads to schools
SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations is spreading the cheer with National Random Acts of Kindness Week on campus and in the community.
This week (Feb. 11 to 15), those on campus and middle school students in Mexico, Phoenix and Oswego school districts are receiving Random Acts of Kindness cards to Go.Do.Good. around the community.
Campus good-doers will perform a Random Act of Kindness, fill in their name on the card and leave it at the scene of the good deed with the receiver. The receiver will fill in his/her name and a description of the good deed and return the card to one of the designated drop boxes on campus. Both the giver and receiver will be entered in drawings for to win a prize.
“And the fun doesn’t stop there,” said Tammy Elowsky, assistant director of the Office of Business and Community Relations. “At the drop box, the receiver can pick up a new Random Acts of Kindness card to Go.Do.Good. for someone else. It’s all about paying it forward and building community.”
Each participating middle school will have its own way of recognizing these good-doing bandits at its school.
This is an effort by SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations to promote collaboration, trust and paying it forward in preparation for its new Community Incubator Initiative, Elowsky said. More information about the Community Incubator Initiative will follow in the coming weeks.

The SUNY Oswego Counseling Services Center has sponsored Random Acts of Kindness Week on campus for several years and has created a Facebook group (Oswego Random Acts of Kindness Group) where members of the college community are welcome to report—in word and photo—their personal experiences of kindness during the week.
